Students cast their votes to select Saginaw Valley State University's 10-student 2014 Homecoming Court. Students then cast a second round of votes to crown the court's king and queen. Those honors went to Homecoming Queen Bethany Thrun, a nursing major from Garden City, and Homecoming King Tom Sutherland, a finance major from Carsonville. The king and queen were announced at halftime of SVSU football's homecoming game against Northwood University on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The Petoskey native has accepted a full-time position as a junior instructional designer at United Federal Credit Union's headquarters in the southwestern Michigan community of St. Joseph. She plans to begin the job once she graduates from SVSU with a bachelor's degree in communication in May 2015.

A Saginaw Valley State University graduate has received a highly competitive scholarship that will cover $200,000 to $300,000 of her costs in dental school. Logan Schuiteman, who earned her SVSU bachelor's degree in biology in May, now is enrolled at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
