SVSU has accepted new students for the fall 2016 semester.

Students this month participated in a service project through Saginaw Valley State University's Alternative Breaks program, which is a student-led organization that sends its members to various states and countries to do volunteer work during traditional school break periods.

Saginaw Valley State University educators are leading six environmental research studies this summer with the help of 10 teachers and 21 students from a dozen K-12 schools in Bay, Gladwin, Midland, Saginaw, Shiawassee and Tuscola counties.

Four Saginaw Valley State University students will compete in the Miss Michigan Scholarship Pageant in June, including one woman whose mother once won both the Miss Michigan and Miss America titles. SVSU students Jaeleen Davis of Saginaw Township; Ashli Maser of Au Gres; Mallory Rivard of Bay City; and Alana Rae Wilson of Monroe are four of the 34 contestants in the pageant.

Ten students have been selected for Saginaw Valley State University's highly competitive Roberts Fellowship for the 2015-16 academic year. The program annually enlists students in academic coursework and extracurricular activities designed to enhance their potential as future political, economic and civic leaders.

Ten Saginaw Valley State University students provided occupational therapy support to people in Ecuador. The students -- all enrolled in SVSU's master of science in occupational therapy program -- visited a pediatric clinic, an adult day care center and a skilled nursing center during their stay. Crecer, a nonprofit organization that provides occupational therapy services in Ecuador, worked with SVSU's students.

A group of Saginaw Valley State University student residential hall leaders recently attended a national conference in Fargo, North Dakota-- and helped clean up a neighborhood while there. The 10 SVSU students attended the National Association of College and University Residence Hall Annual Conference at North Dakota State University from Friday to Sunday, May 22-24.
