Zach Bauer , of Saginaw, performs in SVSU's 'Miracle on 34th Street'

2013 Dec 6

Zach Bauer , a theatre major from Saginaw, performed in Saginaw Valley State University's production of "Miracle on 34th Street: A 1940s Radio Play."

The play, shown December 4-5, recreateed a live 1940s-era radio broadcast of the story made popular by the 1947 movie adaptation starring Natalie Wood.

Ric Roberts, SVSU associate professor of theatre, and Dave Rzeszutek, SVSU assistant professor of theatre, co-directed the production that centered on a man who claims to be Santa Claus. When the man is institutionalized, a lawyer decides to defend the case, arguing that he's the real Santa.

Telling the story through a radio broadcast, "Miracle on 34th Street: A 1940s Radio Play" provided audiences an homage to the early 20th century tradition of American families gathering around a radio during the holiday season to listen to Christmas stories and music.
