Tiffany Johnson, of Clinton Township, Assists Local Community Programs in Leadership Program Kickoff

2013 Aug 19

Incoming freshmen in Saginaw Valley State University's Living Leadership Program got an early start on their leadership development during a Kick Start Camp Thursday, Aug. 8. The program is built around giving back to the community during the camp's annual service project.

Tiffany Johnson, of Clinton Township, volunteered in the Child Abuse and Neglect Council Great Lakes Bay project in Bay County, which involved helping with trimming trees, pulling weeds, organizing the location and preparing for the annual CAN Council Ducky Derby on Saturday, Aug. 17.

In total, 36 students and four SVSU staff members -- divided into three teams that day -- volunteered five hours each for more than 200 hours of combined volunteer time. The students volunteered at the Child Abuse and Neglect Council Great Lakes Bay in both Saginaw and Bay counties, along with the Underground Railroad in Saginaw.
