SVSU student Renisha Houston, of Flint, contributes to Boys and Girls Club of Saginaw in an internship position

Saginaw Valley State University student Renisha Houston, of Flint, has gained valuable experience with Boys and Girls Club of Saginaw in an internship position.

As part of the SVSU Cooperative Education and Internship Program administered by the Office of Career Services, students such as Houston have the opportunity to apply their academic coursework into a real-world setting. Houston is a criminal justice major.

Recognized with the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, SVSU encourages students to pursue practical experience. By their senior year, 84 percent of SVSU students have engaged with community employers and agencies in internships, field placements or some other component of their academic preparation.
