Saginaw Valley State University student Paul Lafata, of Ortonville, has gained valuable experience with New York School Of Urban Ministry in an internship position.

As part of the SVSU Cooperative Education and Internship Program administered by the Office of Career Services, students such as Lafata have the opportunity to apply their academic coursework into a real-world setting. Lafata is a political science-public administration major.

Recognized with the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, SVSU encourages students to pursue practical experience. By their senior year, 84 percent of SVSU students have engaged with community employers and agencies in internships, field placements or some other component of their academic preparation.
