2015 May 28

A group of Saginaw Valley State University student residential hall leaders recently attended a national conference in Fargo, North Dakota-- and helped clean up a neighborhood while there.

Haylie Chamarro, of Oxford was among the 10 SVSU students to attend the National Association of College and University Residence Hall Annual Conference at North Dakota State University from Friday to Sunday, May 22-24.

There, the elementary education major helped clean up litter and assist in landscape maintenance along Fargo's Roosevelt neighborhood. The neighborhood association there assisted in the clean-up efforts.

At the conference, the students networked with other college residential hall leaders from across the globe. The attending students came from nations such as Canada, South Africa and Qatar.

The conference included program sessions that covered topics such as diversity, ecosystems, community development and leadership development, among others.

At the conference, Chamarro took office on the Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Hall, the regional chapter for the national residence hall organization. She will serve as a communications officer for a 1-year term.
