SVSU's Derek Williams, a Pinconning native, helps student group's 5K fundraiser

Derek Williams, a biology major from Pinconning, and other members from the Health Professions Association student organization at Saginaw Valley State University recently hosted their first ever 5K fundraising event April 5.

The event, sponsored by Covenant HealthCare, drew around 40 runners. The $300 raised at the event was donated to the Women's and Children's Health Service at Covenant HealthCare.

Williams is the association's pre-optometry senator .

The association next plans to help raise awareness for the Covenant Kids Telethon on April 19.
