SVSU Student Joshua Fleming of Bay City Selected for the United States Peace Corps

2013 Mar 25

Saginaw Valley State University student Joshua Fleming has been accepted into the United States Peace Corps. The political science and public administration major from Bay City will leave for Swaziland, Africa in June to begin training as a Peace Corps Community Health HIV/AIDS Educator.

A student leader on campus, Fleming currently serves as the Speaker of the Association in Student Association, SVSU's student government. He also is a peer adviser for Peer Health Education and serves as the standards chairman; he drew praise for his work in that capacity from Sara Martinez, assistant director of SVSU's Student Counseling Center.

"Josh has been stellar in his work with his fellow students," she said. "Not only has he brought a new perspective and energy to the Peer Health Education organization, but also a sense of order with his standards position. I am excited for him to be able to apply the skills and knowledge he has learned in his volunteer position with his new opportunity in the Peace Corps."

Fleming is expected to graduate from SVSU in May.
