SVSU Student Emily VanFleteren of Troy, Mich. Chosen as Michigan Residence Hall Student of the Year

Saginaw Valley State University student Emily VanFleteren, a secondary education major from Troy, Mich., was selected Student of the Year by the Michigan Organization of Residence Halls Association. She received her award Sunday, Feb. 24 at Central Michigan University.

In addition to VanFleteren's individual honor, SVSU's delegation received the Best Roll Call award and the Best Banner Award.

Criteria for the Student of the Year award include a student's service to the Residence Housing Association, campus, and state; his/her participation and spirit in conferences, meetings and programs; and his/her involvement with regional and national affiliates. To be considered, a student must be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

MORHA is a state-wide organization dedicated to fostering communication and networking between the different residence hall organizations in universities across Michigan. By providing a strong framework of communication through meetings, conferences, shared resources, and different networking efforts, MORHA helps to develop leaders across the state as well as make the on-campus living experience a more dynamic and exciting environment.
