SVSU Student, April Lukowski, Awarded Funding through the Student Research and Creative Institute

2013 Apr 15

April Lukowski, a biochemistry major from Bay City, Mich., was awarded funding through the Students Research and Creative Institute for her research at Saginaw Valley State University. Lukowski was chosen to receive $9,917.63 to study the genetic origins of isoprene, a substance emitted by fir trees that can contribute to the creation of smog.

Nine students pursuing scientific research projects received funding from Saginaw Valley State University's Grace A. and Herbert H. Dow Student Research and Creativity Institute. Grants were awarded to six projects for research on such topics as cancer, calculus, and the psychology behind exercise habits.

Any SVSU student may submit a proposal to receive financial support for research or other creative endeavors. Each student project is eligible to receive up to $10,000. All student submissions must be sponsored by an SVSU faculty or staff member. Students serve as the primary researcher, author or creative agent for each project but are guided by SVSU faculty and staff.
