Rachel Farley , of Hillsdale, to perform in SVSU's 'The Game's Afoot'

2015 Sep 15

Saginaw Valley State University's Department of Theatre will produce the Sherlock Holmes-inspired play, "The Game's Afoot," in October.

The cast includes student Rachel Farley , of Hillsdale, who plays Aggie in the production.

"The Game's Afoot" takes place in December 1936, when Broadway star William Gillette, admired for his leading role in "Sherlock Holmes," has invited fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry.

When one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it's up to Gillette -- as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes -- to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this whodunit mystery.

Steven Erickson, professor of theatre, will direct the Ken Ludwig play.

"In this fast-paced 'tour de farce' by Ken Ludwig, you'll be on the edge of your seats as William Gillette and his acting troupe try to apprehend the killer," Erickson said of the production. "If you are intrigued by murder and mayhem, you'll love 'The Game's Afoot.'"

Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday, Oct. 7-10, in SVSU's Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts. A 3 p.m. showing is planned for Sunday, Oct. 11.

Tickets cost $13 for the general public and $10 for senior citizens and students.
