Patricia Altergott, of Bay City, to perform in SVSU, SASA choir concert

2013 Oct 22

The Saginaw Valley State University Concert Choir and Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy Choir this week will team up to present the 50th Anniversary Choral Gala. The collaboration marks a rare occasion when two of the region's leading choirs duet for one crowd.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in SVSU's Rhea Miller Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

In all, 45 SVSU students and 28 SASA students will perform for the crowd. SVSU's Patricia Altergott, of Bay City, is among the performers.

The evening selection will feature music by famous composers Giovanni Gabrieli, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson and H. Owen Reed. Many of the planned compositions have statesman themes including Copland's "Old American Songs, Set 2," Hanson's "Song of Democracy," and Reed's "Michigan Morn." The choirs also will play their rendition of Gordon Lightfoot's famous "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," about the sinking of the ship in Lake Superior on Nov. 1o, 1975.
