Novi native to showcase mechanical engineering project at SVSU symposium

2017 Dec 7

Saginaw Valley State University will host its annual fall Engineering Symposium on Friday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Pioneer Hall. During the event, 29 mechanical engineering students will demonstrate their senior projects. The public is invited.

Shane McClure, of Novi, worked on the project with team members Gavin Bennett, Joshua Howell and Ahmed Alfaraj. The title of McClure's project is SVSU Greenhouse Vertical Hydroponics System which is a device that orients gardens vertically saving ground space.

At SVSU, mechanical engineering majors are required to collaborate with outside clients or university organizations as part of the senior projects.

Eight teams of students took on the task of prototype production and technological engineering for their designated client. The regional organizations and manufacturers being represented are Kremin Inc., Nexteer Automotive, Huhtamaki Group, B&P Littleford, Inspire Outcomes LLC, Bay Port Chamber of Commerce, and SVSU's Boutell Memorial Greenhouse.
