Natalie Schneider of Saginaw among SVSU students honored for outstanding service and spirit during annual Student Life awards

2017 Jun 5

Saginaw Valley State University's Office of Student Life recently presented its awards to outstanding registered student organizations and individuals for the 2016-17 academic year.

Examples of the awards presented include the Teresa M. George Red Pride Spirit Award given to the student who exemplifies "Red Pride," both on campus and in the community; and the Merry Jo Brandimore Award for Excellence in Student Leadership, presented to a student who demonstrates initiative and dedication to their leadership roles.

The Outstanding Philanthropic Award recognizes a student organization that displays an innovative response to meeting a need either on campus or in the community.

Student Organizations such as Active Minds, which organized a push-up challenge to raise awareness for veterans who have died by suicide, and Tau Kappa Epsilon which raised over $2,600 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through a 'Teker-Totter' event, were among the student organizations recognized at the ceremony. 'Teker-Totter' involved two large teeter-totters that were set up in the courtyard where students could pay to ride as music played from a tent nearby. Fraternity brothers also pledged to ride one minute for every dollar donated, leading them to ride continuously. The event lasted for 36 hours.

Natalie Schneider, a management major from Saginaw received the Influential Leader Award .

The awards honor the effort put forth by individuals and student organizations within the SVSU Cardinal community every day to make their campus and the Great Lakes Bay Region a better place.
