Jennora Walker of Detroit Among First SVSU Students to Visit New Sister School in Ghana

2013 Jan 3

Jennora Walker, a social work major at Saginaw Valley State University, will join eight classmates on a faculty-led trip to Pentecost University College in Ghana, a West African nation whose economy is among the fastest growing in the world. The trip is the first formal visit by SVSU students to Pentecost, a school that became a sister university to SVSU in August.

Walker, from Detroit, Mich., will depart Friday, Jan. 4, and over the course of nine days have the chance to interact with Ghanaian students and learn about international business from working professionals.

Students' travel costs are subsidized by contributions from donors to SVSU's 50th anniversary fundraising campaign who designated their donations for this purpose.

The group will be led by Joseph Ofori-Dankwa, SVSU's Harvey Randall Wickes Chair in International Studies, and Mamie Thorns, Special Assistant to the President for Diversity Programs.

Saginaw Valley State University is a comprehensive university that offers 90 programs of study for more than 10,000 students on its suburban campus in Michigan's Great Lakes Bay Region. SVSU is committed to quality teaching in the classroom, field-based learning experiences, NCAA Division II athletics and a range of academic and extracurricular opportunities for students to excel.
