Dylan Loga, Tawas City native, among SVSU students volunteering over spring break

2014 Feb 27

This spring, 48 Saginaw Valley State University students will spend their spring break volunteering for organizations helping others.

Dylan Loga, a professional and technical writing major from Tawas City , will participate in a project involving cleaning the facilities and caring for puppies at Xenia, Ohio-based animal care shelter, 4 Paws For Ability.

The initiative is one of four opportunities being organized through SVSU's Alternative Breaks program, a student-led group that advocates volunteer work during traditional break periods from school. All four trips will span Sunday to Saturday, March 2-8.

The university's Alternative Breaks program this year will send the students to assist the elderly in Huntsville, Ala.; help homebound individuals in Atlanta; assist with activities at an animal shelter in Xenia, Ohio; and landscape for an organization that offers equestrian activities for the disabled in Honeoye Falls, N.Y.

Upon returning from their Alternative Breaks, SVSU students will apply lessons learned on their trips toward community service projects close to SVSU and/or the students' home communities.
