Cass City Native, SVSU grad Emily Sullivan earns law school scholarship

2013 Jul 25

Saginaw Valley State University graduate Emily Sullivan will attend Wayne State University Law School on an academic scholarship that covers full tuition. The Cass City native, a political science and criminal justice double major at SVSU, begins there this fall.

"I am excited and slightly nervous, but I feel very well prepared by the education I received at SVSU," she said. "What is particularly comforting is that several faculty have reached out and offered continued support as I make this transition in my life."

At SVSU Sullivan was a member of the Roberts Fellowship Program, which engages 12 students annually in leadership-building activities and study, and a three-week trip to Asia. Her accomplishments as a student include a 75-page paper of original research in correctional scholarship, which she presented both to the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts and Letters as well as the Midwest Political Science Association.

"Emily is a remarkable young woman, intellectually quite sharp and ambitious," said Andy Swihart, SVSU professor of psychology and Roberts Fellowship adviser. "I suspect she will excel at whatever area of law she eventually settles into."
